Pre-Production Panic(?)

In Film and Related, Roughly About Films on February 23, 2012 at 3:22 pm

We are in prep for our turn at shooting our team’s short for the department’s capstone course, Techniques of Film and Video Production.  We’re currently working on storyboarding and shot breakdowns for our short, “The Dead Never Sleep”.  I’m the AD.

We’re using FrameForge, a complicated and expensive 3D rendering program, to do our storyboards and lighting plot.  (I think we could just as easily do it with pencil and paper, but this is how the class is designed.)  We’ll be shooting on a Canon 5D mark II with a Redrock Micro Shoulder Rig with follow-focus attachment and mattebox.  (Again, I don’t see the point, exactly.)  Hey, I’m a college student on Social Security disability; I don’t have eight grand to buy a 5D just to shoot 1920 X 1080 progressive; I’ll settle for 1280 X 720 progressive, and do what I can with what I’ve got.

After everything’s shot, and we sync up the external audio with PluralEyes (expensive again), we’ll each make our own edit of the footage.  This may be fun; we’ll see.

Not much else to say at this point.
